The former Canberra Raiders player and NSW State of Origin representative has been the coach of the Melbourne Storm for over 15 years. Bellamy is widely regarded as one of the finest coaches in the rugby league world.
Craig Bellamy is widely regarded as rugby league’s super coach.
As the mastermind behind the Melbourne Storm, he has built one of the most successful and admired clubs in NRL history. His ability to develop elite talent—most notably Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, and Cooper Cronk—while consistently unearthing and elevating emerging players is a hallmark of his coaching genius.
Bellamy’s high standards of honesty, commitment, culture, and performance have been the foundation of Storm’s sustained success. Since taking charge in 2003, he has guided the club to multiple premiership victories, including their most recent triumph in 2020 against the Penrith Panthers. Under his leadership, the Storm has been a perennial finals contender.
His coaching journey began at the Canberra Raiders after a successful playing career, including 148 first-grade appearances and a 1990 grand final win. He then served as an assistant to Wayne Bennett at the Brisbane Broncos, contributing to two premiership wins before earning the top job at Melbourne.
Despite setbacks, Bellamy rebuilt the Storm into a dominant force, securing titles in 2007, 2009, 2012, 2017, and 2020. His excellence has been recognised with multiple Dally M Coach of the Year awards, most recently as last season, cementing his legacy as one of the game’s greatest mentors.
