Charlie Rule

Australia's youngest female football player to sign with a Women's Super League club in the UK.

Charlie is one of Australia’s brightest football talents, now making her mark on the global stage.

She began playing at an elite level at just 11 years old, kicking off her NPL career with Sydney University in the Under-12s competition. Her talent quickly caught the attention of Football NSW Institute, where she was handpicked to join the state’s best young players. Spending five years there, she capped off her final season as team captain in 2021, a testament to her leadership and skill.

These experiences laid the foundation for her professional career.

At just 16 years old, Charlie debuted for Sydney FC’s A-League Women’s team in 2020, becoming the youngest member of the squad. By 2021, she had earned consistent playing time and was named Sydney FC’s Player of the Match in the Grand Final. Her time with the club was filled with success, including a Premiership-Championship double in the 2022/23 season.

Her rapid rise caught international attention, and in 2023, Charlie signed with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s Super League—becoming the youngest-ever Australian female to do so. Now 21 years old, she has committed to the club until 2027, further solidifying her place in one of the world's top leagues.

Charlie’s international journey has been just as impressive. Since 2020, she has been part of the Matildas’ development pathways, and in December 2023, she officially debuted for the senior national team. Prior to that, she played a pivotal role in the U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she was a key player in the Young Matildas squad.

Off the pitch, Charlie has risen to stardom through social media. What started as a fun side project with her best friend Bayley on TikTok has grown into a viral sensation, amassing over 105K followers and 3.4 million likes. Individually, she has built a highly engaged Instagram following, connecting with fans worldwide.

With her ever-growing profile, Charlie has also partnered with global sportswear giant New Balance, further cementing her status as one of Australia’s most exciting young athletes.

Still only 21, Charlie’s career is only just beginning—and there’s no limit to how far she can go.
